good base, poor table,

I purchased this base for my large bench top drill press. The package and all of its contents arrived in good condition. My first disappointment was the butcher block table top which is nothing more than MDF with wood grain paper to give a woodlike appearance. I assembled the base according to directions, leaving most of it loose until the top is attached. I pre-drilled the top to the depth specified in the directions. After attaching the table top I tightened the base and found the entire unit to be very sturdy with a solid feel and easy to level. When I returned to my shop an hour later to start moving the drill press, I noticed the top had developed severe cracks running parallel to the top and bottom at three of the four corners, some of the cracks 6" long. Rather than have Shop Fox replace the top with another that may have the same problem I decided to use 1" Baltic Birch plywood for the top. The table base is great, but the top has serious problems and is very...Read more

Chinese Junk,

This exact table is branded variously and comes in different colors. The MDF top disintegrates to sawdust upon drilling. The photos cleaverly hide the lack of top braces on the short sides. The little mid-leg side braces you see in the picture are the only items helping the soggy top to hold the front and rear leg assemblies in place. The hardware baggie was busted so the weeny little undersized nuts, bolts and washers had spilled out in the shipping box migrating to every cranny (so much for the 20 minutes assembly time). This table is rated up to 700 pounds. Well, it might be safe with 700 ounces... By the way its on sale at Western Tool outlets for $29 and change, and not worth a penny of that. The directions are pathetic and reference "star washers" which are not included. However, the hardware includes about 32 extra washers with which you can make a nice bracelet.
I feel sure there are some chinese engineers out there laughing hysterically at their little joke.

Fox D2056 Tool Table for grinder- The top is not a laminated wood product or even a glued wood product. It is more like compressed sawdust or cardboard material. The first work table top split horizontally before ever being used. The second top from Grizzelie has gouges and scratches and peeled covering as well as being absolutely filthy with dirt on all surfaces. Unless you already have a wood work surface for this table, don't waste your money.
