I really like Ridgid tools and have several. Since I already have several batteries and chargers, I really did not need to purchase another complete kit. Therefore, getting just the tool at a great price was an opportunity I did not want to pass up. The Autoshift Drill/Driver arrived on time and in what seemed to be new shape. It was not in the original packaging, so I could not guarantee that it was brand new...but I believe it was. The tool works as advertised and I am very happy with it.
The reason for four stars instead of five is that when I went to register it online, I found out that the part number sent to me was originally part of a kit and since I did not have the other pieces of the kit, I did not have their serial numbers, so the system would not allow me to register the tool. On having some correspondance with Ridgid support, I also found out that the Lifetime Service Agreement is only available for tools sold through Home Depot. I would be totally happy with...Read more

I have a wide assortment of Ridgid tools. All of my cordless tools, except one, are Ridgid. I purchased this drill recently from an Amazon Marketplace seller that goes by the name "Minng88". They offered the tool new with no charger or battery and delivered it as promised in the condition that they stated (excellent customer service). Since I have plenty of Ridgid chargers and batteries for my other Ridgid cordless tools, it was a great opportunity to get the new auto-shift drill driver to try out. It is GREAT! No more stopping halfway through to change the gear/speed setting. It start out at full speed and as soon as it detected more resistence, it automatically down-shifted to the lower, higher-torque setting to drive home the lag screws that I was driving. Just like the automatic transmission in a car! Really cool! I never hesitate to recommend the Ridgid brand and I certainly recommend the Ridgid Auto-Shift drill/driver!

Not only did I make the mistake of purchasing one of these - I purchased two. One for personal use and one for use at work (I'm a Facility Manager at a medical facility).
First off - it was my mistake for not doing any on-line research. At the time of purchase, Home Depot was running a special; with the purchase of the drill you received a mail-in certificate good for a free hammer drill. For 200.00 I thought for sure that these had to be good units (like and idiot, I assumed a high price equated to good performance).
In a nutshell: I have had the same problem with BOTH units, so I know the issues are not a fluke. As others here have stated - the batteries don't last, warranty issue is laughable at best, battery power is sporadic, and the drills just don't have any power. With most drills of this size (18volt)the chuck should twist out of your hand when you grab it and apply power. With these - they stop dead in their tracks.
