I picked this item up a couple of weeks ago and am greatly pleased with the performance so far. I was in the middle of a roofing project and needed a good, stout, cordless to perform a variety of tasks. As an added benefit, Home Depot had a sale on power tools that gave me a discount of $25.00 and it included a free impact driver in the kit (Limited time thing I guess). The drill felt very solid and good in the hand. It had a nice balance to it, partially due to the fact that the battery is smaller and lighter than other 18 volt batteries I seen. The battery/drill weight ratio seemed to give it a more natural feel. I put it through the paces over the last week. I had to do some spade work in the tresses to run some wire (I installed some lighting and some outdoor outlets while the roof was open), and I used it to screw down the sheeting. On top of that, the drill was also used to make holes for the lighting to wire the lighting fixtures and run conduit for...Read more 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By mgspeed (Southeast PA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Ridgid ZRR86006 18V Cordless 1/2-in Compact Lithium-Ion Drill with 2 Batteries (Misc.) I like this drill for many very good reasons, but it is also very frustrating for a lot of good reasons.
It has really good torque, I have rarely had to grab my corded drill because I needed more power. -But the brushes still give off an ozone odor a year after I bought it and I've remodeled a kitchen with it so it's hard to believe they aren't seated yet. The batteries charge really fast. -But after a little more than a year they started failing. After a year and a half one is completely shot, the second is almost worthless. It has a lifetime warranty -But the nearest service center is over an hour from my house, and if I ship it they will only pay for return shipping. I also have to ship the entire kit (batteries, charger, and drill) even if the only concern I want addressed is the batteries. Would I buy it again? I don't know. I'm going to give it another shot, get the batteries replaced and see how...Read more 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Ridgid ZRR86006 18V Cordless 1/2-in Compact Lithium-Ion Drill with 2 Batteries (Misc.) I purchased two drills in 2008. They had a "lifetime warranty on everything". I registered them and sent in the reciepts for the warranty. The drills never came close to the performance of my old Dewalt drill! About 8 months ago they wouldn't even drive a 1 in screq into pine.
I took them to the repair center that Rigid sent me to. They said I needed tocontact Rigid for a LSA #. I called Rigid , they said they didn't have record of me sending in the reciept but do have record of me registering them. They told me to send them a copy of the reciept. I can't find it and found outlater that Home Depot prints reciepts on "Dissapearing ink" That's right the temperature sensative reciept paper makes the ink dissapear over time. I have called Home depot to try to get a duplicate reciept No luck yet. The only reason i bought these over a new Dewalt is because of the warranty. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! |
