I find it to be more than adequate for the type of work I do. I install Hollow Metal door frames, doors, and remodeling and maintenance as well. It has plenty of power, torque and the frame is small enough to access relatively tight areas. I used the Makita 9 volt for years. The Porter Cable 19.2 surpasses that one as well as the others I have owned or used in my work. If there is one detractor to the drill, it has to be the drill motor housing/case. The other day as I was working from a 4' ladder and the drill fell to the floor (carpeted} and the housing cracked near the battery reveiver area. Needless to say I was a bit upset. I have had other drills sustain such falls before with a minimal of damage and keep on working. In this type of work, I need a tool that will perform under very harsh field conditions and keep on going. Down time is money to me and every other tradesman in the industry. Perhaps a case of polycarbonate...Read more 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful: By Ricky E Nielsen (salt lake city, utah United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Porter-Cable 9884 19.2 Volt 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill Kit (Tools & Home Improvement) I like mine, you should get you one. I consider a couple hundred bucks to be a fairly substantial investment, so I did lots of research before I bought mine.I considered buying DeWalt, but after talking to several owners, I found that DeWalt had a histoy of problems, besides, it appeared that Porter Cable had more bang for the buck. I was right, the drill I have goes a long, long time before I have to charge it. Just the other day I was driving screws intermittently all day long, and at the end of the day I had to drive 12- 6" by 1/4" lag bolts into douglas, fir, I decided not to predrill them, just to see if my drill would do it.(I still had a fresh battery if it wouldn't.)So anyway the drill did it, it even twisted the head right off one of the lag bolts, when I ran into a knot, and had power left over! The only 2 things I would change about the package would be, to design a more useful carrying case with more storage space, and to make the drill a little lighter, but I feel...Read more 22 of 23 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Porter-Cable 9884 19.2 Volt 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill Kit (Tools & Home Improvement) I use a Dewalt 18 volt and the PC 19.2 volt. The Porter-Cable is my cordless drill of choice everytime. The fit and finish are excellent. It fits my hand and while not a light weight it is comfortable to hold for long periods of time. It as if this drill was made form me, my 20 year old daughter says the samething. The PC 19.2 volt is the most used drill in the shop. |
