I bought this kit because it was a good value especially with a rebate.

You might think an included flashlight is useless but think again. You can get a lot of light time out of the battery attached to the flashlight and it's bright. Also, while the flashlight seems cheaply made (unlike the driver/drill, which seems very sturdy), the fact that it can stand up on the battery base and point anywhere in the room is nice when you are working with little light.

The Makita unit is sturdy, designed well and fun to use. It may not be quite as smooth-running as the more expensive Panasonic cordless drivers, but for the money and bang for the buck, you can't beat Makita. I also like the way the Makita looks better than any other brand. It performs very well and I am not dissappointed at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great drill but BATTERIES!!!!, December 27, 2010

Nothing better for power and accuracy and longevity.
The only reason it gets a 3 is because heavy use will kill the batteries and they cost about half as much as the entire drill would cost to replace. That is a major downfall with this brand (and probably most if not all other NMHi battery drills). Makes me think Craftsman at a better price point if I have to throw it away in a few years. Really, when you can get a new drill on sale for nearly the cost of a battery replacement something is clearly wrong.
Maybe the newer Lithium battery models won't die as fast. But imagine replacing those buggers?
Kinda like getting the printer for free because the ink is so darn expensive - but then they own you.
