I spent a lot of time mulling over my options before picking up the Ryobi for work. #1 on the list of considerations was the size of the unit, with it's compactness yet slightly longer neck making it the winning choice for staying stowed in my tool pouch with the handle out for easy no-look access as well as being small enough to place in my jeans pocket. I'm happy to report that it is working out well on both counts, being not to big to fit in my pocket, but large enough to stay put in tool belt. #2 for consideration was torque. Unfortunately the packaging doesn't really tell you squat about how much torque this unit has, but for my purposes it has enough for 90% of what I do, driving deck screws up to 1-1/2" into siding without breaking a sweat. It will not handle #10 screws into un-piloted holes in solid fir for more than 3/4" or so, so this is not a heavy duty driver, but ideal for driving lots of smaller screws. #3 is the solid...Read more 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Ryobi ZRHP41LK 4V Cordless Lithium-ion Screwdriver (Misc.) I had a cheap version of this kind of driver that I picked up at local True Value as part of a promotion sale a couple years back. I used it a lot around the house, at work to assemble shelves and displays, and in my wood shop. But, being cheap, it didn't last long and recently stopped holding a charge. Since I had come to like the pistol grip style as opposed to the torpedo style for a cordless driver I oped for this Ryobi with its Lithium Ion battery, hoping for a longer life from the tool.
After only a few days use of this product, I have to say that while I am generally pleased with it, I do have some issues. First is the inability to turn on the light without engaging the driver motor. An on-off light switch would be better. This was a feature on my cheapo driver and it was especially handy with assembly inside a darkened box or carcass. Second is the direction selector. It really is in a poor location. When backing out a screw or bolt, it rides...Read more 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: By Whisper (Connecticut) - See all my reviews This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Ryobi ZRHP41LK 4V Cordless Lithium-ion Screwdriver (Misc.) I have used this lightweight tool while wiring a house- actually several houses. It's small and light enough to carry in a pouch of a tool belt- It's main function in my electrical work is driving screws to mount lights, outlets and switches and it will go several full days in that service before needing recharging. While not its' primary function it has enough power to drive 2-3 inch drywall screws and even drill holes but only with drill bits that have a 1/4 inch hex shank. 1/4 hex tools such as Driver and drill bits snap into the chuck easily and are held firmly. Like all such drivers the chuck is not adjustable- if the tool bit doesn't have a 1/4" shank it wont work here. There are lots of tool kits available that have that shank. The LED light is handy and it comes on to illuminate the working area whenever the drill is turning- (too bad they didn't give it a separate switch so you could find the screw slot before the drill started going- maybe that will come next). The clutch...Read more |
