5.0 out of 5 stars Great Set Of Bits, June 3, 2002

These are the best bits I have owned particularly for metal. They cut extremely well and stay sharp. In a cordless drill, even the 1/2 inch bit drills through steel like butter. In wood they will literally pull the cordless drill through causing some tear-out on the back side unless a backer board is used or you hold back on the drill as it breaks through. They are exceptional when used in a drill press for both wood and metal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bits while they last . . . ., June 3, 2004

I am a big fan of this set and of DeWalt's pilot point drill bits. However, once the pilot point dulls it is difficult to sharpen, and individual replacement pilot point bits are hard/impossible to find. So it's either go back to regular bits for replacement, or buy an entirely new kit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pilot Point Tip a Big Plus and a Bigger Minus, September 22, 2003

I used these bits for a heavy duty job drilling both wood and aluminum. They worked great for a while, however, the Pilot Point Tip eventually lots its bite. With a dull Pilot Point Tip the drill bit will simply spin on top of the surface you're drilling. So once the Tip is dull you'll either need to sharpen it, which is difficult because its so small, or throw away the bit. Its a real shame because until the tip dulled the bits did a fantastic job. However, I'm switching back to a standard tip drill bit.
